Introduction
When running a growing business, it may become impractical to set all of your users' passwords for them. This becomes especially difficult when you wish to allow employees to privately set their own password without having to request an administrator to set it for them. This is where Self-Service Password Resets come into play.
What is User Self Service?
User Self Service encompasses features that allow your email users (such as employees) to accomplish certain actions themselves without needing the account holder to go through the Mango Dashboard. Think about a soda fountain, once the cup is given to the user, they are able to self-serve their own drinks and alleviate that stress from the owner.
How Do Self-Service Password Resets Work?
Once self-service password resets have been enabled for a domain, users can use the recovery web tool to send a password reset to their email. This requires the user to already have access to their address to ensure only the rightful owner can reset the password. If the domain does not have self-service password resets enabled or the underlying plan does not support the feature, the user will be notified that an account administrator must manually complete the action.
Enable / Disable Password Resets
- Log into the Mango Dashboard and click on the "Domains" tab.
- Click on the domain you wish to enable password resets.
- Switch to the "User Self Service" tab.
- Toggle the switch next to "Address Recovery".
Example Use Case: Allowing Employees to Set Their Own Password
In this example, we'll look at how you can allow an employee to set their own email password. First, you will need to create a mailbox for them with a preset password. This password should be provided to the employee to allow them to sign into the address. Once the user has access to the mailbox, they can use the recovery web tool to set the password of their choice.
Conclusion
Now that you've learned the benefits and implementation of self-service password resets, you can easily allow your organization to set up and recover their own address passwords.
